Hope you don't mind a question about the new Star Trek movie

Hi, I'm new here and I'm sorry if this is a worn out topic, but I saw the new Star Trek yesterday and was wondering if someone can explain something to me. The characters are all younger because this is a pre-quel, right? In the original series, wasn't Chekov the youngest of the main crew? I don't have a point of reference because I don't know how old Kirk was, but I always thought he was about 30, Bones about 35, etc. Chekov, I thought, was around 18-20. So in the new movie, shouldn't his character be much younger or not even exist? Is this a goof or one of the destiny changes Spock created? Thanks! I have another question, but I'll wait.

I'm looking for a movie that is about a friendship between 2 women. They are black and white and are friends despite the prejudice around them. The white girl gets pregnant and the black women becomes a teacher but is murdered by some local boys. The white girl then goes to the trial and speaks up for her so that the boys get put in jail for murdering her black friend. There is also a boy they hang out with and he refuses to speak up at the trial. It is a VHS movie and I can't remember the name and would like to purchase it. Thanks

Looking for name of 1950's Japanese monster movie.

I thought the name was "Rodan" but I just watched that movie (in color?) and it wasn't it. Same story, though. Giant flying monster terrorizes the world. In the movie I'm looking for, I remember this flying creature landing on the roof of the UN (I think) building and pecking a hole in it. It's end came when it chased a bomber (B-36?) and the scientists aboard gassed it. Anyone know what movie this was? Thanks.

Please Help me Name the Movie These Dolls Were In

About 6 years ago I purchased two dolls and they stand about 4 feet tall. These dolls were in a movie and I've searched for many many hours trying to pin point that movie again but haven't been able to do so. I thought I'd try here. The scene these dolls were in took place in a basement apartment, and the star of the movie was having a mid-life crisis. He had picked up one of those papers where call girls advertise and hired a hooker who turned out to be a cross dresser. These two dolls appeared in that scene and were leaning against the wall in the background. One of them was wearing an orange feather boa which isn't in the picture I've posted. After spending an evening with the cross dresser he started to question whether he was gay. The movie was hilarious, but I just can't remember the name of it. When I picture the movie I picture De Niro as the star but I've searched all his movies with no luck. I believe the star of the movie was a cop, but I'm not positive of that any more.

Need some help with old 8mm movies....(Fathers Day present)

My DH has been collecting old reel movies for a while now...the goal was to collect a lot of them and buy a projector and screen and show movies out in the yard on summer nights. I would like to surprise him and buy them for him for a Fathers Day present, but have no clue on what I need, where to get it, etc.... The movies seem to be all 8MM, but are different sizes...I have no idea if that makes a difference. Right now I am looking for a decent projector, but not top of the line if they run on the expensive side. The screen I can probably find on my own. If someone could help, I sure would appreciate it! Pictures in the next post for those on dial up. --

IS Blu Ray Worth it? Can you notice a big difference?

So I got a new Blu Ray DVD player on Boxing day, like I'm sure so many others did too. I have to say I'm not too impressed. yes I notice a difference, but maybe I'm getting old but it's just not a huge difference. I can make out the wrinkles on Al Pacino's forehead. It's kind of neat at first but then it sinks in, it's really just the same movie, only with, well more wrinkles. I don't know if it's worth replacing the DVD's I have which I have paid hundreds (if not for Ebay, thousands) of dollars for. So who plans on replacing their DVD's this year?

I am posting this inquiry on several Groups and Forums in an effort to determine the value of two significant pieces of rare Michael Jackson (R.I.P) memorabilia and where I might have one of them authenticated. Back in 1982, Michael Jackson teamed with Steven Spielberg, Quincy Jones, and MCA Records to narrate an E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Storybook Album - a double-sided full-length 33 LP with a 20-page booklet and 22-inch square poster included within. Since Michael Jackson was signed with Epic Records at that time, and since the storybook album was recorded on MCA Records, the album was considered a breach of contract and was pulled shortly after its release. I possess two of those albums. One of them is in very good condition with pristine book and poster - and the other was never opened and is still in its original shrink-wrap packaging. Four questions: 1. Does anyone know of an appraiser or other expert within the Washington DC/Virginia/Maryland area who would be able to authenticate that the shrink-wrapping is indeed original (1982)? 2. What might be the estimated value of each of these albums? 3. Where might I find collectors who would be interested in the shrink-wrapped album? 4. From a value standpoint, would it be more appropriate to wait for a period of time in order to possibly increase its value and demand? My daughter was a big fan and we have had these two albums for 27 years. I hope that someone else might now appreciate owning them as part of their collection and remembrance. Not sure if I can list this or not????

Hello all, I bought a large lot of dvd's and in them I have one dvd in paticular that im not sure if I can sell. On the cover of the dvd it say's "FULL-LENGTH SCREENER for promotional use only- not for sale or rent". Now they were obviously sold to me in the lot I bought. Does this mean I cant sell them, or was this stated like that because the film had not been released at that point in time? I have probably 20 of these. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Wrong movie or wrong picture

I have come across several auctions by different sellers that have mistakenly either posted the wrong movie information or the wrong dvd cover. I emailed one seller, then discovered that there were several more that were confused. The actress on the 2008 cover for Northanger Abbey looks much like the actress from the 1986/(dvd)2000 Northanger Abbey. The cover shown is from the 2008 movie, but the actors listed under item specifics and detailed item info are for the 2000 movie. At least one auction listed both sets of actors. It looks like they all went and copied the same wrong auction! Too many for me to take the time to email them all. Any suggestions?

Hi - I found a 8mm cartoon on a plastic reel, in original box, in my mom's basement, along with a bunch of 8mm home movies. In it was also a Hollywood (brand) Automat 8mm - 16mm splicer. Below are some pictures. I did a search on ebay and came up with nothing. Not w/ 8mm, or 8mm film or cartoons, etc. Nothing in completed auctions either. Is there not a market for this? RIP Billy Mays... Sellers Already Exploiting Him...

Hi, For those who don't know: TV infomercial pitchman Billy Mays has died. After Michael Jackson died, it was no surprise to me that people wer'e selling lots of MJ things on eBay, including the people selling things like a copy of the Thriller LP for $500,000, saying in their description to "buy it now before it's gone". This RARE item actually has like 30 million copies out there in all of the thrift stores and in people's attics, big deal. My point: Doesn't it seem kinda sick for sellers to already be selling Billy Mays items, so soon after his death? One seller is listing an autographed package of OxyClean. He even says in the main title that Billy Mays has died, so this is not some coincidence, the seller purposely posted this item just today(and it's a 24-hour auction). At what point is it too soon to post items on eBay? Isn't there a grain of dignity left in America? What ever happened to etiquette? Take a moment to search(by highest price first) items with the names: Ed McMahon, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Billy Mays. It's really sad how blatant people can be with making a few quick bucks off of a celebrity's death. Okay, I know others will disagree... Comments? p.s. I'll be selling a piece of toast said to have been touched by the King of Pop(Elvis).

It seems that a very important detail about dvds are being omitted from most listings; are they widescreen or full-frame? These days it makes a huge difference, especially with TVs being purchased especially for widescreen viewing. I've purchased movies listed under widescreen descriptions in Half.com that are actually full-frame, and this should be reason enough to return an item for full refund. I feel that this should be a required field of entry for all DVD listings, and if this is not the place for this request or discussion, please direct me to the nearest suggestion box. Also, I'm new at this discussion board, and I love thrillers and horror movies, along with some of the really good classics. My youngest son is a walking movie catalog, so if you have questions, especially about thriller, horror, or action series from the 1960's to the present, you may want to check him out!

Help with the name of a current horror movie with a severed hand....

I'm thinking it's in the movie The Mist that came out a couple years ago...but my friend last night bet me that it's not. I'm getting all the horror movies confused. But, in the movie I'm thinking of people were trapped in store I believe and a guy's hand/arm was attacked by something causing his hand to detach from his arm and start chasing people. So they were trying to get away from his "possessed" hand running around and I seem to remember them closing freezer doors (like in a convenience store) to get away from it. Does anyone know what movie this might be? It will only be a couple years old.

Correct terminology needed for Superman II poster display set

Hi, could anyone help with providing the correct terminology to use? I have a Superman II set, and other sets, that were distributed for making small theater or other promo displays. Typically, they come with 8 by 10 photos, a thick-stock logo banner, and thick-stock mini-posters that are larger than lobby cards. the Superman II set is in a big manila mailer with the Superman II logo across the front. When I sign onto eBay's Movie Memorabilia, is there a way to do it so that I don't keep falling into the reprint purchase mistake? At first I didn't know what a reprint was. Okay, that covered my first blunder. Now I think a "reprint" is something that you slip in among original, personally autographed photographs, while inclluding a word like "reprint' in an inobvious place in the auction ad in order to create the impression, among potential eBay buyers, that they are buying an autograph. Let me also say that these reprints are not cheap, for what they are, which is wallpaper. Part of it is my fault because I get into a rhythm and search through the fascinating signed photos and quickly jump too fast to buy. NOTE TO SELF: Take deep breaths.

Yes, this could prove to be interesting. I hope someone can help me with a old movie. I loved it and I can't remember the title or even any of the stars. Older movie title missing from my memory....

Hello all, When I was very young in the summer of 1969, July to be exact, I saw a movie that left an indelible impression upon me but need the title to it! I think my parents probably regret taking such a young kid to this film 'cause it raised all kinds of questions from me and back then, when parents told you to be quiet, you did so. It was a drama, possibly British or French. Black and White...I think....can't remember if there were subtitles. From my vague recollection, it was about a teen brother and sister, and a same age girl that comes between their close realtionship. The boy and girl may have run away during a storm (in a boat on a churning river) and end up drowning I think... Just remember that is was a very dark drama. Film noir? I thank you kindly for your knowledge and time spent brainstorming!

Very old slides used as theater intermission advertising.

I have some very old glass slides used in local Jacksonville, FL theaters to display as advertising during intermissions. They were apparently fabricated to stand the heat of the projector while sitting there being displayed for long periods of time. Are these items of any interest to collectors. They are pretty unique, but would anyone want them? This seemed to be the best place to ask this question but any suggestions would be appreciated.

"Catch Me If you Can" Dress with some stains.. will it Sell?

I live in Hollywood and get to go to wardrobe sales at the major studios because my friend is a costume designer on a hit show. I found a dress that was used in the movie Catch Me If you Can. the dress can be seen in the actual movie. The problem is .... the dress seems to have some stains on it. Help with Kurtwood Smith's 12:01 - 80's short film.

I have been trying, for years, to find Kurtwood Smith in 12:01. It was the short film about a man who experiences the same hour over and over again due to a time anomoly. I think that Showtime produced it in the early to mid 1980's. The major motion pictures Groundhog Day and 12:01 were based on this 30 minute short film. Can anyone can help me locate this? I found a pile of 40s movie magazines, and have really had fun looking through them (ads for movies like Casablanca, Holiday Inn, Bambi, and more, plus lots of great vintage fashion eye candy). Looks like the magazines can do really well or not, like ebay normally is, but it looks like Veronica Lake can do really well as far as memorabilia. One of my magazines has a full page "photo" of her, as well as another half page ad featuring her likeness. I've been searching completed auctions, and can't tell -- do the collectors just want original photos, or do they also like the magazine type printed photos? I'm trying to decide if I want to list these or not, because they are such fun to look at, but if it's desirable to a collector, I'd definitely pass them along. Thanks for any help you have to offer. Hello everyone! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. I don't think I have posted here on this board before, but, I am sure there is someone here who will know the answer to my question. I have an Ebay consigment shop and someone brought me in some scrapbooks full of Newspaper/Magazine clippings of some actresses such as Ann Margret and Carol Kane. There are also a couple of pictures like the ones shown below that look more like photos than magazine clippings. My Question is are these actual photos of Linda Darnell? Can you tell from my pics? They almost don't look real, or like maybe they were colored in or something. They look like maybe a black and white photo and then certain colored areas stand out. I have an extensive collection of one sheet original movie posters, many are rather vintage. My problem is finding a supply of nice frames to mount them before they get destroyed by kids, cats, wife. Anything I have found that is not just the cheap plastic slide together frames are pretty pricey ($200 ). I would love to snag some cast off theatre, or even video store marquees. Damaged UPC bar codes on a DVD

I recently purchased a wholesale lot of DVDs from a liquidator and noticed that on most of the DVDs the UPC code was partially damaged. Others were simply covered with a white label or a label with a different UPC code. Removing these labels reveals the "actual" UPC code for the DVD. I cross-referenced one of the movies in the wholesale lot that had a damaged UPC bar code with a copy of the same movie from my personal collection and the UPC code was identical and the whole packaging was identical. There were no chinese lettering and they are all Region 1 DVD. I could not see any indication that these DVDs could be bootlegged. The wholesale lot of DVDs are new and still shrink wrapped therefore I was not able to inspect the disc. Why would the UPC bar code be partially damaged?

Making person dvd from vhs I purchased

I was wondering if someone can help me. I've been buying vhs tapes and transferring to dvd for my own personal library. I get them from thrift stores. My problem is, that I"m finding that most of them were previously rental tapes and will no burn. Is there a way to tape this kind of tape? Or is there a way to tell what was a rental or not? thanks

Could I legally sell a copy of a movie prop...

I own the original, movie used Map of Perfection that was used in the movie TREMORS. There is no copyright on it. I purchased this direct from Universal Studio Auctions (way back in 1997)... Do you think they gave up the rights when they sent it out for sale? It included a COA from Universal and the prop master on the movie. Would I legally be able to sell high-quality copies on ebay?

Terminator Salvation vs. Star Trek

Here we have two BIG franchise re-boots (sort of) and this is a movie discussion board, so what do we think. Offhand I suspect that when I see Terminator Salvation, I will like it maybe even get really into it at times, but fully expect if it wasn't for Bale and Michael Ironside and their quality of acting it would have been significantly less a film. I think a lot of comic fans from the old days would compare Terminator Salvation as an experience to the JLA/Avengers cross-over that DC and Marvel took so long to get sorted out and on the stands. What you finally wanted to see is there, but it took so long it somehow seems less so. We'll see. As for Star Trek I suspect I will enjoy it more than I might expect as everything that I am reading and hearing keeps putting down any cynical concerns I had. My initial big concern was how were they going to handle the character of Pike? Because for the longest time, nothing in print or promo really addressed this and stupidly so imho as it seemed bloody obvious to me that anybody with the least bit of background would want to know that much, but that appears to be neither here nor there now as it looks like they might have handled Pike's character in a way I'll want to see. I am predicting, B- to B for Terminator Salvation, and a solid A- for Star Trek. We will see. Has anyone else?

70's early '80's educational Series

I grew up in this time period and really enjoyed the programs that came on "educational TV". I've been trying to track down the following series: "The Community of Living Things" "The Human Community" "Eureka"-this is about physics, not the SciFi channel series "Gather 'Round"-Paul Lally telling story, Rae Owings drawing illustrations "Cover to Cover"- John Robbins telling the story and drawing illustrations"(there were a number of series in which he did this, also including "Read It") The Encyclopedia Britannica Series on the Human Body systems Call me a geek, or strange,or what have you, but I ended up being a teacher and these shows sparked the interest in learning and I never stopped. So if you have copies or know where I could aquire them I would appreciate the info. There are some educational tv stations around the country that still show some of these, but I can't pick up their stations to record the shows. Good movies badly dubbed?

I have found over the last few years I enjoy watching kung-fu movies in Cantonese or Mandarin with sub-titles far more than I ever did the dubbed versions I grew up watching on Saturday tv. The poor dubbing almost dooms any film to lose it's edge, if not become outright farcical. Some kung-fu movies I used to think were crap, are almost polar opposite these days watching the subtitled version! How low poor dubbing will sink it. Even something like "The Big Boss" which I liked even English dubbed, has a lot more power to me in the sub-titled version. I mean I know that the original language is dubbed as well, but still, it travels better that way.

Final QUATERMASS anyone?

I just snagged a good sci-fi deal elsewhere. The complete version of the last Quatermass story by Nigel Kneale on DVD! I had seen the film length version, but let me tell you, the almost 4 hours long version is incredibly powerful and has lots strong characterization and clever plotting that the 90 min version is lacking. I mean the shorter version has pacing going for it, but if you like Nigel Kneale's writing, the more story the better. Also, considering the ending of the story, the more time leading up to it the more powerful. So many series just stop production, not so many actually finish, really finish.

Fake autographs being sold here on Ebay

Ok, so it's nothing new.. but I have recently come across many fake signed photos of silent star Anita Page, whom I collect. I must stress to fellow film fans that these are NOT authentic. I have tried contacting the seller but with no response, unsurprisingly. I realised that the photos the seller was selling were from my Anita Page website and that the seller than signs them. Many of the photos of Anita I edited on Photoshop earlier this year from my personal collection. The seller claims they were signed before 2005 and has come up with a very clever little story about a man in his 90's who collected these photos. Not only has Anita Page's signature been forged, but many other stars aswell. It's such a shame as fans are bidding on these and spending their money on fakes. It's just not right. Don't buy a dud!!

Beware: Korean version BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB

I have watched region 1 version of this movie and I love it. I was thrilled to find on eBay a Korean version with DTS audio. My past experience with DTS was that they always offer crispier sound. Well, not this one! I receive the DVD today. The DTS audio was jerky -- by that I mean you can hear a popping sound. Furthermore, the video quality was noticeably poorly than the region 1 version I watched earlier. I notice artifacts and the picture is "pixely" and blurry. I popped the DVD into my PC and run it with DVD Shrink. It tells me that it was a DVD-5! I am very certain that the region 1 DVD I watched was a DVD-9. In other words, the video must have been compressed. I strongly advice against buying the Korean version of BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB found on eBay. The DTS it offers isn't usable (at least for me) and the picture quality is very bad.

Where as I do plan on keeping a couple for myself, I will in fact be selling most of the collection in the near future; most likely on ebay. How can I offer my buyers a certificate of authenticity? (COA). What processes are involved? Do I simply make them up on my own thereby making myself legally bound by the claims on the COAs that I created? This would be fine because as I stated, these are very authentic. Some are even personalized to the original collector himself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search for Entertainment Memorabilia category and you come up with over 246,000 items, customize your search a little on the left and choose New for Condition, you get only 1,292 listings. Why are there no 'New' item specifics for over 99% of the entire huge entertainment category? I'm moving lots of my listings out of Entertainment Music and Entertainment Movies because I can't have New in the condition field so that leaves potential buyers clueless as to whether the item is truly new or not. Also if they search for one of my items and my competition has the item in Inside the Home, they can specify New, but since most of my Entertainment items can't be shown as New, the potential buyer won't see my item if they customize their search to show New items only. Category managers, I'm not sure if you're on here but how about getting better Condition item specifics for the majority of your category.

I have been looking for a specific video-and apparently it has either not been released to the DVD/VHS world - or something I am not sure- and I have seen it listed once on ebay and on other sites specifically stating that it is "a copy of the original" Do the owners of these have to have licenses in order to do this? The name of the movies are Parent Trap 3 and 4 Hawaiian Honeymoon. They were made for TV movies and I know my mom recorded them from TV- for personal use. Excellent movies- I just don't want to buy pirated material. Thanks
