I have found over the last few years I enjoy watching kung-fu movies in Cantonese or Mandarin with sub-titles far more than I ever did the dubbed versions I grew up watching on Saturday tv. The poor dubbing almost dooms any film to lose it's edge, if not become outright farcical. Some kung-fu movies I used to think were crap, are almost polar opposite these days watching the subtitled version! How low poor dubbing will sink it. Even something like "The Big Boss" which I liked even English dubbed, has a lot more power to me in the sub-titled version. I mean I know that the original language is dubbed as well, but still, it travels better that way.
